The United States Open Championship, regularly known as the U.S. Open, is the yearly open public title of golf in the United States. It is the third of the four significant titles in golf, and is on the authority timetable of both the PGA Tour and the European Tour. Beginning around 1898 the opposition has been roughly 72 openings of stroke play (4 rounds on a 18-opening course), with the victor being the player with the most reduced complete number of strokes. It is organized by the United States Golf Association (USGA) in mid-June, planned so that, assuming there could be no weather conditions delays, the last round is played on the third Sunday. The U.S. Open is organized at an assortment of courses, set up so that scoring is truly challenging, with a premium put on exact driving. As of 2020, the U.S. Open honors a $12.5 million satchel, the biggest of every one of the four significant championships.
