KL Rahul is a right-handed batsman and part-time wicketkeeper who plays for India. The 30 years old batsman has shown his alluring game with many records on his name.
Despite of talented personality and prodigious career, Rahul is facing backlash. This happened as he was only able to score 20, 17 and 1 across three innings in the two tests of the India vs Australia Four-Test Match Series of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Opener KL Rahul’s score is getting more priority over the fact that India has retained Border-Gavaskar Trophy with them even after the end of the 2nd Test Match. Despite of celebrating the victory, concentration of people has shifted in finding out loop holes in the game of 30 years old batsman.
KL Rahul is getting brutally trolled on the social media platforms. Some ex-cricketers are breaking his sentiments by expressing their disapproval on the Rahul’s selection in the team. Venkatesh Prasad is among of those. As per Prasad’s point of view KL Rahul’s selection in the team was not based on performance but ‘’favoritism.’’ Though he mentioned he has nothing personal with KL Rahul, just saying for the welfare of the Indian Cricket Team.
KL Rahul’s poor performance in the ongoing four match series is shaking his position in the Playing XI. Henceforth Rahul was removed from the vice-captain post for Indian Cricket Team though as of now he is a part of Playing XI. Shubham Gill is considering as the best option for replacing KL Rahul due to his powerful form visible in the current year. Ishan Kishan is also assessed as an option for replacement.
Gautam Gambhir extends support to KL Rahul
Despite of different harsh comments from different individuals, many people supported Rahul. And the support is necessary as every player goes through a lean patch in their careers. Gautam Gambhir understands this and raise his hands in the support of KL Rahul. Gautam Gambhir addressed critics by informing that how tough is International Cricket. Gambhir appealed to media and ex-cricketers to leave Rahul alone as tough phase can come in anyone’s life. Gambhir is sure that Rahul will regain his form.
“People who are talking about KL Rahul don't know how tough international cricket is. I believe when a player is not performing, he needs more backing as compared to when he is playing well. Name one player who has scored runs from beginning to end. Everyone has faced that phase and you should back the talent,” Gambhir told Sports Tak as quoted in NDTV Sports.
According to NDTV Sports - “When Rohit Sharma started his career (he struggled) and now look at his performance. There is absolute change. In the middle of the series this should not be talked about. India are 2-0 up. Each player in the dressing room knows whether he is scoring or not. No media or ex-cricketer can tell players that your performance is not good. Each player evaluates their performance. He should be left alone because we all know the quality player he is,” he added.
Gautam Gambhir and KL Rahul collaborated in 2022 for Lucknow Super Giants. As of now KL Rahul is a captain and Gambhir is a mentor for Lucknow Super Giants. They will both reunite for the same in the 2023 edition.
