DC has named David Warner as their new captain

The TATA IPL is going to take off on March 31, 2023. After the spectacular auction, teams are now locking their seatbelts by appointing their captains and vice captains. After Rishabh Pants’ near-fatal accident, the Delhi Capitals were unsure about their captain. Rishabh Pant, who was considered a permanent captain for the Delhi Capitals, is not able to play in the upcoming season of the TATA IPL due to his miserable accident. 

Delhi Capitals was searching for their captain in the absence of Rishabh Pant, and it seems like their wait is over. David Warner has been appointed as the captain for the Delhi Capitals, while Axar Patel is given the vice president post. 

Why is David Warner the best option for the captaincy? 

David Warner is an Australian player. He acted as a captain for Australia multiple times. Plus, Warner's experience of playing in India is also an advantage. 

Before 2021, David Warner was playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League, where he also led SRH. Sunrisers Hyderabad won the trophy in 2016 under the guidance of their opening batsman. In 2021, Warner has released from Sunrisers Hyderabad. Eventually, DC has bought David Warner for 6.25 crores in the exciting auction of Indian Premiere League. Earlier also David Warner has taken responsibility of captaincy in his hands for Delhi Capitals. 

Talking about the winning ratio of the team under Warner’s captaincy in the IPL. David Warner has a winning percentage of more than 50% in his IPL career where he has served as captain. From 69 matches, as a captain in the IPL, Warner’s team has won 35 matches with 32 defeat and 2 matches have been tied. 

In 2022, David Warner’s bat spoke with marvelous runs in the IPL. In the previous season of the IPL, Warner scored 432 runs in just 12 matches with an amazing strike rate of 150.52. Also, he released five half centuries from his bat in 2022 in the IPL. 

As a result, it appears that Warner is currently the best choice for the accountable and respectable position. 

David Warner’s poor form in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy: 

David Warner has shown an underwhelming performance in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Warner scored 1, 10, and 15 runs in the two test matches of the four-match series. Due to his poor form, there is speculation about his selection in upcoming tournaments. 

Warner is currently unfit. David Warner has been ruled out of the remaining two tests of the ongoing India vs Australia four-match series of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as he is dealing with injury issues. 

Reason for absence of Rishabh Pant: - 

Rishabh Pant is absent from the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League due to his car accident in Uttrakhand. In December 2022, Rishabh Pant met with a near-fatal accident while driving. His car was overturned and caught fire after hitting a road divider. There was no one else in the car except him while the accident took place. 

The 25-year-old batsman survived and is currently recovering from injuries. Hoping young skipper will recover soon to show action on the field.
