All You Need to Know About Cricket Leagues
Cricket, the most entertaining and Fan following game has made its dominant presence globally. Starting in the 16th century, this sport has now made its place in the heart of millions of people. Talking about the Cricket Leagues, these are mostly governed by International Cricket Council(ICC). And spectators just can’t wait for the different leagues organized every year. And we can’t say which league is the best and most popular.
So, let’s see the following leagues which thrill our audience:
1. ICC Cricket World Cup
Now, this needs no introduction. World cup takes place every four years, with many prior qualification rounds ending in a final day tournament as One Day International Cricket (ODI). The First World Cup was held in England in June 1975 and the most successful team till now is Australia. The next cricket edition will be held in 2023 which will be hosted for the first time by India.
2. ICC World Test Championship
Another primary league started in August 2019 and has New Zealand as its winner. In March 2020, matches of test league were canceled due to Covid Pandemic and didn’t recommence before July 2020. As the matches couldn’t be executed due to Pandemic, New Zealand became the first team to qualify for the finals.
And the First World Test Final Championship was held between India and New Zealand where New Zealand won the trophy.
3.Twenty20 World Cup
Another most awaited Championship that is held after every 2 years. The Team that has won the maximum times in T20 World Cup is West Indies. The First Edition of this World Cup was held in 2007 in South Africa where India was the winner. Well, the 2021 edition were to be held in India but due to pandemic, the matches were played in UAE and Oman and the 2022 event will be hosted by Australia.
4. T20 Leagues
The most popular format of Cricket, it's a short-duration cricket format with single innings with a maximum of 20 overs. It was started by England and Wales Cricket Board in 2003 as an inter-country competition.
Considering the popularity of the 2007 ICC World Twenty20 many cricket leagues started taking place. Indian Premier League(IPL) started by the Board of Cricket Council Of India (BCCI) is considered to be the biggest and the most famous Cricket League. It has the highest brand value and is considered to be the most viewed Cricket event. The latest winner of IPL in 2021 is Chennai Super Kings.
Well from 2022 onwards Gujarat Titans, a franchise cricket team of Ahmedabad Gujarat owned by CVC Capital Partners will join the IPL. The team will be HardikPandya. And one more major change is Now the Title Sponsor will not be Vivo, It is replaced by Tata Group. Now, stay tuned for the upcoming IPL 15 from 26th March 2022.
Following the footsteps of IPL, many T20 Leagues are also started, let’s take a look at some of these:
A professional Twenty20 league was held in Australia. It was started in 2011 and is organized from December to February each year. The well-known thing about this league is, it adopts the extraordinary approach in its game playing and various other segments like Power Surge, X-Factor Player, and the Bash boost.
This Cricket League is Hosted by England and Wales Cricket Board. The unique thing about this league is that it has 18 teams that have more teams than other leagues. It began in 2003 and the latest edition is 2021.
It was initiated in 2013by Cricket West Indies as a replacement for Caribbean Twenty20 as the Twenty 20 couldn't compete favorably. The best thing about this league is its even popular among many celebrities, even Bollywood actor Salman Khan invested in one of its teams- Trinbago Knight Riders.
This league began in 2012 by Bangladesh Cricket Board. This League comprises a four-team first-class tournament that consists of the best players from the eight-team National Cricket League which is the oldest cricket competition of Bangladesh.
Started in 2016 by Pakistan Cricket Board, this league is played between February and March every year. In contrast to other Leagues, it doesn't have Independently-owned teams, here there is one single unit in which investors invest in each franchise.
This competition was started by South Africa in 2018 as a replacement for axed T20 Global League. Earlier this league had six franchise teams that represented different South Asian Cities. But now it has a total of 8 teams that compete in the league. Though in December Cricket South Africa said that the 2022 Mzansi Super League will not take place due to Covid-19.
