The Sri Lanka National Men's Cricket Team, nicknamed The Lions, addresses Sri Lanka in men's global cricket. It is a Full Member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) with Test, One-Day International (ODI) and T20 International (T20I) status.
The group originally played global cricket (as Ceylon) in 1926-27, and were subsequently granted Test status in 1981, which made Sri Lanka the eighth Test cricket playing country.
The group is controlled by Sri Lanka Cricket. Sri Lanka's public cricket crew made extensive progress starting during the 1990s, ascending from dark horse status to winning the Cricket World Cup in 1996, under the captaincy of Arjuna Ranatunga. From that point forward, the group has kept on being a power in global cricket.
The Sri Lankan cricket crew arrived at the finals of the 2007 and 2011 Cricket World Cups successively. They turned out to be sprinters up in the two events. Sri Lanka won the Cricket World Cup in 1996 (versus Australia), the ICC Champions Trophy in 2002 (co-champions with India), and the ICC T20 World Cup in 2014 (versus India).
They have been continuous sprinters up in the 2007 and 2011 Cricket World Cups, and have been sprinters up in the ICC T20 World Cup in 2009 and 2012. The Sri Lankan cricket crew presently holds a few world records, including the world record for the most noteworthy group all out in Test cricket.
