The Mumbai Indians franchise came into existence on January 24, 2008, for Mumbai, Maharashtra, to compete in the Indian Premier League. The team is captained by hitman Rohit Sharma and coached by Mahela Jayawardane. The Mumbai franchise plays its home matches at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Due to Razor, the team logo, the Mumbai franchise was going to get the Mumbai Razor’s name, but Mumbai Indians was finalized after the proposal of the thundering batsman Sachin Tendulkar. MI is owned by Indiawin Sports Pvt. Ltd. (Reliance Industries Ltd.). In the history of the IPL, MI has become the proud team that has won matches in the years 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020.
