In international women's cricket, the Indian women's national cricket team, often known as the Women in Blue, represents India.
With a total of 7,662 points and a rating of 111, the team is now ranked fourth in the ICC Women's Rankings. The Indian squad is currently ranked among the best in Asia and the globe. It has made significant progress in recent years and has proven its worth several times.
History
In 1973, the Women's Cricket Association of India was established. In 1976, the Indian women's cricket team played their maiden Test match against the West Indies at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Their maiden Test triumph came two years later against the same opponent against whom they had made their debut at Patna's Moin-ul-Haq Stadium.
The Indian team played their first One-Day International (ODI) against England in 1978 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Their first T20I match was again against England, and it took place at the County Cricket Ground in Derby in 2006.
In 2006, the Women's Cricket Association of India joined the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Achievements
India has reached the ICC World Cup final twice, in 2005 and 2017, but has failed to win the trophy in both instances. India has reached the semi-finals three times before, in 1997, 2000, and 2009.
India also advanced to the semi-finals of the first two ICC Women's World Twenty20 tournaments in 2009 and 2010.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selected a 15-player roster for India's women's cricket team's forthcoming home T20I series against Australia on Friday.
