Three records were broken following India's convincing victory over Zimbabwe.

During the current T20 World Cup 2022, India defeated Zimbabwe by a 71-run margin in the tournament's last group game. On Sunday, November 6, the match was held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

With their victory over the Chevrons, the Men in Blue finished the group stages atop Group 2 with four victories in five games. They will now meet England in the second semi-final on Thursday, November 10 in Adelaide.

After deciding to bat first, India got off to a shaky start, losing Rohit Sharma (15) early in the powerplay.

KL Rahul, on the other hand, continued his good form with a 35-ball 51. He shared a 60-run stand with Virat Kohli (25) to help the Indian innings. However, a mini-collapse in the middle overs resulted in India losing three fast wickets for only 14 runs. Suryakumar Yadav hit 61* with a strike rate of 244 to push India's total to 186/5, just as Zimbabwe sought to make inroads into the Indian batting order.

Zimbabwe got off to the worst possible start to their run chase, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissing Wesley Madhevere for a first-ball duck.

The Zimbabweans continued to lose wickets, leaving them reeling at 36/5 in 7.3 overs until Sikandar Raza (34) and Ryan Burl (35) offered some steadiness to the innings. Just as Zimbabwe began to appear menacing, Ravichandran Ashwin provided India with a crucial breakthrough by dismissing Burl.

Suryakumar Yadav, the world's number one T20I hitter, is having a spectacular year in his career.The Mumbai boy is now India's best T20I run-scorer in a single calendar year, with 965 runs in 27 matches, including eight fifties and a century.

Meanwhile, in the present T20 World Cup, the 32-year-old has scored 164 runs in four innings.

The former Indian captain needs just 68 more runs to become the world's first player to reach 4000 runs in T20 internationals. Kohli has scored 3932 runs in 113 T20Is, with an outstanding average of 53.1 and a strike rate of 138.5.

Kohli also became the first hitter in T20I history to score 3000 runs in March 2021.
