Every individual is aware of the term "Indian Premier League" (IPL), but not many know about the "Women Premier League" (WPL). The BCCI, like the IPL, has decided to organize a women's Indian cricket league, the WPL.

Women Premier League is a tournament which give wings to women cricketers to fly high in the sky. It offers financial and emotional support to female cricketers. Through this platform, women cricketers can show off their power-packed gaming style.

The Women's Premier League will start on March 4, 2023, and continue until the final match on March 26, 2023. The astonishing league will involve 22 matches among the five teams.

History and idea of starting WPL

Before WPL came into picture, Women’s T20 Challenge was played in India from 2018 to 2022. This Indian women’s cricket T20 tournament started in 2018 with a single match played between two teams—the IPL Trailblazers and the IPL Supernovas. The campaign extended into a three-team tournament with a new team, IPL Velocity, in 2019.

In November 2020, BCCI president Saurav Ganguly proposed an innovative plan to expand this small tournament into a large one to support female cricketers. In February 2022, Saurav Ganguly officially announced his idea of commencing an Indian Premier League for women. The Board of Control for Cricket in India officially announced the name of the women's version of the IPL - Women Premier League - on January 25, 2023.
