Former Australian Cricketer and all-rounder Shane Watson has been acquired by Delhi Capitals as an Assistant Coach on Tuesday for the forthcoming IPL League.
This will be the first time that this marvelous cricketer will display his action as a coach. He will join the DC gang in the coming days. Shane Watson will be working alongside other Delhi Capital staff members, Ricky Ponting (Head Coach), PravinAmre (Assistant Coach), AjitAgarkar (Assistant Coach), and James Hopes (Bowling Coach). In the official statement, Watson expressed his happiness by saying, "The IPL, the best T20 tournament in the world. I've got incredible memories as a player, first of all with Rajasthan Royals winning it in 2008, led by the incredible man Shane Warne, RCB and then CSK." Adding to the statement, he further said, “I've got incredible memories as a player, and now coaching opportunities. It's come to be able to work under the great Ricky Ponting. He was an amazing leader as a captain, and now to be able to coach under him. He is one of the best coaches in the world now. So, for me to be able to learn the ropes under Ricky.” Well, Watson has played 59 tests in his career and 190 ODIs, but it was in the white-ball cricket, where he created marvels. He is regarded as an all-rounder in it. In his ODIs, he had secured ‘5757 runs and in 58 T20Is- 1462 runs. Watson had also made his presence in Australia’s two victorious world cups in 2007 and 2015. He had also obtained the title of the ‘Player of the Tournament’ in the 2012 T20 World Cup Tournament.And another great accomplishment of Watson's career is he was considered as a "powerhouse-performer in the Champions Trophy" and won 'the player-of-the-match award in the finals of the 2006 and 2009 tournament.' Watson is also commended for being the 'first player to score a century and gaining the four wickets in an innings in all forms of cricket. Looking at Watson's IPL achievements and Participation; He had represented Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, and Royal Challengers Bangalore and procured the titles twice; the first time with Rajasthan Royals in 2008 and 2nd time with CSK in 2018. Watson had achieved '3875 runs and 92 wickets in IPL matches and was known to be the tournament's best all-rounders due to his performance. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals will begin their tournament against Mumbai Indians on March 27 at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai. Led by Rishabh Pant and owned by JSW and GMR group, DC is placed in Group Aalong with ‘Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rajasthan Royals, and Lucknow Super Giants.’
